Pity this poor cat. It’s in love with dying technology. “This cat was so obsessed with the fax machine in the vet’s office that we had to close the office door,” explains the YouTuber responsible for the video. “She would come running every time the phone rang!”

Ha ha! A cat obsessed with a fax machine! What is this, 1980-something? Hey, what else ya got? A dog who’s obsessed with a mimeograph machine? How about a parrot in love with a Dictaphone? You got a hamster who sends telegrams? A rabbit smitten by an adding machine? A goldfish watching a movie on Laserdisc? You got a guinea pig enamored with a rotary phone? How about an iguana who adores a typewriter? Is there a ferret transfixed by a transistor radio? Or a snake bewitched by a Polaroid camera? Is your gerbil enthralled by cassette tapes? Is your tarantula captivated by a VCR? Does your chinchilla devote itself to a pager? Is your Vietnamese pot-bellied big ensorceled by your Graphophone?

Exercise & Care Of Your Guinea Pig

Indoor Exercise:
For your Guinea Pig will want to be in a safe area in your home, on tiles preferably.
Or in a cage just for indoors for them – although its not required.

Outside Exercise:
in a grazing hutch is the safest way, it has the grass coming through the floor. You can make your own or buy them from a pet shop or online. Guinea Pigs feel much more secure in their own outdoor grazing area because it gives them a secure roof & a place to hide in too. As well as the glorious grass!

Grooming:
Short haired Guinea Pigs only need a brush every now & then, and thats mainly so you can get to know them better, its not really required.

Longer haired Guinea Pigs need regular daily brushing and combing. Gently untangle any knots in the fur and take out bits of dirt or hay. Then carefully comb through your pets coat.

Check your Guinea Pigs claws regularly to see if you need to trim them yourself, or have the Vet do this for you. Make sure that one peson is holding your guinea pig & one using the clippers gently, this ensures a happy piggy next you cut their nails. Only trim down to the quick.

Cleaning the Cage:
Everyday just see if it needs a liitle tidy up, some Guinea Pigs put their wee and droppings in one corner, which is easier to clean up.

Once a week clean the cage out completely removing old food, fruit and bedding – Everything!
Re line the cage with newspaper and hay.

Having a separate box to put your Guinea Pig in whilst you’re doing this makes life a whole lot easier!

Switzerland Votes: No Legal Aid Lawyers for Animals

Forced to decide whether their country of Switzerland should create a national system to provide state-funded lawyers to represent animals in court, the Swiss people voted, and the outcome was a resounding no. “The measure was rejected by around 70 percent of voters,” reports BBC News.

Currently, Zurich is the only Swiss canton (an administrative district similar to a county in the United States) to have a government-subsidized animal lawyer. Antoine Goetschel represents dogs, cats, guinea pigs, farm animals, and even fish who have been abused, reports the (U.K.) Telegraph.

“People accused of animal cruelty very often hire lawyers to defend themselves,” Goetschel tells the Telegraph. “Why shouldn’t someone speak for the animal as well? It’s about fairness and defending a minority.”

The referendum was required to be held after “activists from the Swiss Animal Protection (SAP) collected more than the 100,000 signatures required to force a national ballot,” reports the Telegraph. But the animal activists were in the minority. The majority of voters in 26 cantons in Switzerland voted against the measure. Goetschel wasn’t surprised. “Animal welfare has been a big topic in Switzerland in the last few years and perhaps this has been too much for some Swiss,” the Zurich animal lawyer told the Telegraph.

Switzerland has some of the world’s strictest animal protection laws, reports the Telegraph. “It recently changed its constitution to protect the ‘dignity’ of plant life and made a law last year establishing rights for creatures such as goldfish and canaries,” states the Telegraph. “Pigs, budgies and other social creatures cannot be kept alone; horses and cows must be regularly exercised outside their stalls and dog owners are required to take a training course to learn how to properly care for their pets.”
